How to Identify Prehistoric Stone Age Tools
Read about the area where you found your stone "tool" or "manufacturing site" or where you plan to explore and the type of stone local to that area. Also read the works of archaeologists and the history of the people who once lived there (or nearby). Finally, read about or watch video documentaries that explore stone tool manufacture and reproduction.
Look around the area near your "site" for additional signs of Stone Age human habitation. This may seem like common sense, but many amateur Stone Age tool hunters forget that the Stone Age toolkit not only consisted of arrow heads, axes and scrapers, but included stone implements such as grinding stones in various shapes and sizes (look for unnaturally shaped ground surfaces, smoothness, and scratches or rubbed in grooves). Grinding stones (especially heavy, long food and grain grinding slabs), along with other archaeological evidence such as post holes and hearths, point directly to human habitation.

Angle grinder for metal welding applications
METABO has released a compact angle grinder for finishing welded seams, preparing for welds, and metal sanding and cutting applications. The W8-125 angle grinder includes the company’s cooling technology with repositioned brushes for unrestricted airflow. According to the manufacturer, a fan pulls 35% more air through the tool than standard cooling technologies, keeping it cool during operation.
The tool also has an eight amp motor with 800W of power, 1.1m/kg of torque and a no-load speed of 10,000RPM.
The motor and other components are protected with double lipped labyrinth sealed bearings, a winding protection grid and epoxy coated windings. By keeping out dust and debris, the company claims motor life can be extended up to five times that of competitive models. The grinder weighs 2.4kg and has a secure ‘racket’ grip and dual grip zones for handling. An anti-vibration side handle absorbs up to 60% of the vibration and provides balance.

Angle grinder can be used in many different positions
Metabo Corp. has introduced the W6-115, a 4-1/2-in. angle grinder. The 4.5-lb. grinder has a 2-3/16-in.-dia. grip and can be used in many different positions, the company reports. It has a 650-W, 6-amp motor and a no-load speed of 11,000 RPM. Maximum torque is 16 in.-lbs. The grinder features a two-position side handle, a lock on switch, an accessible spindle lock, a low-profile aluminum die-cast gear housing, and high-efficiency cooling vents with front exhaust.
Applications include machinery installation, metal stud construction, steel erection, maintenance, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and light cutting and grinding of concrete.

Slag grinder can replace up to six angle grinders
Slag grinder offers an outstanding price versus performance ratio as one person can deslag as many flame cut blanks as up to six persons with angle grinders. Surtech's Model LS 90 Slag Grinder offers an outstanding price versus performance ratio One person using the LS90 can deslag as many flame cut blanks as up to six persons with angle grinders. This is possible because of the superior grinding ability of Model LS 90 and the considerably reduced handling. Model LS90 consists of a table approx. 2000mm long and 800mm wide, an overhead abrasive belt head with a contact wheel carriage and electrical controls for motorised vertical table travel and for a two speed or reversible abrasive belt drive. Flame cut blanks are laid out on the table.
By moving the contact wheel carriage left to right and right to left and the table back or forth all blanks can be ground in one operation. The 6HP belt drive motor has ample power for even the toughest burr and the 6000mm long belt guarantees long life and little down time due to belt changes. The Slag Grinder can be viewed and tested at Surtech's Abrasive Test Centre in Birmingham.
